About Will Hascall

Will Hascall grew up in northern California and started became fascinated with Polaroid cameras at a young age, then took up drawing landscapes in pencil. He also played several different musical instruments and was the first kid in the area to march in the band while playing the recorder. He then went first to the infamous California State University at Chico. While in Chico he studied computer science, learning to program on an Hewlett-Packard HP-850 super computer. He dropped out of computer science because he realized that he was a terribly inconsistent programmer. He switched to instructional technology where he learned Authorware and Macromedia Director, Illustrator and other programs and skills. While at university, he learned pixel painting, illustrating and started making 3D models and computer generated images. For a short time he also worked with Magical Blend Magazine and was the first magazine in which Will attempted to get published. The magazine rejected the story, twice. Still the first and only to do so.

After Chico, Will moved to the Sacramento metropolitan area where he advocated more directly with the state of California on behalf of the blind and visually impaired. He also acquired his Amateur Radio license and started volunteering for the emergency communications group SARCR (Sacramento Area Radio Communication Reserves) there. For a time he also ran his own business making computer compact disc applications for clients all over the world. He also worked as a standardized test grader for CBT-McGraw-Hill. He then worked three years for a local concert promotion company and was honored to meet many famous entertainers, and a few infamous ones.

Moving to Wisconsin in 2007, Will eventually decided to go back to school and completed a second degree in political science/public administration. He worked as a political consultant for a few local and state elected officials and still uses his training in advocacy since he joined the board of directors of the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Central Wisconsin, (ADRC-CW) in 2016. After finishing the second bachelor’s degree, he went back yet again to earn a master’s in communication which he finished in 2020. For a short time he also ran a local literacy organization before that was closed down by the board of directors. He was also on the board of directors of the local municipal library until just before the pandemic shutdown in 2019. For many years, he was active in many local projects and organizations but cut back a lot to focus on advocacy for the disabled, art and writing.

In May, 2024 Will had an article published in the American Radio Relay League’s membership magazine QST. He continues to work on several several stories and hopefully will be able to add to his publication list soon.
